those HEPBURN gals

Although not related in any way, shape, or form, the Actresses HEPBURN have always been amongst my favorites ... forever, I've idolized Katherine; and in the last 10 years, Audrey has joined her on my Top Five Actresses List.

The depth and breadth of their abilities, and of their beauty, is almost beyond words.

Some of my favorite KH movies include THE PHILADELPHIA STORY, ON GOLDEN POND, GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER, BRINGING UP BABY, and WOMAN OF THE YEAR

If Hollywood had its own Mount Rushmore, Cary Grant's profile would be the most prominent: the hair that Katharine Hepburn mussed in Bringing Up Baby (1938), the eyes that Eva Marie Saint couldn't quite meet in North by Northwest (1959), the lips that locked so breathtakingly with Ingrid Bergman's in Notorious (1946), and, of course, the cleft chin that fascinated Audrey Hepburn in Charade (1963). FOR September 2012 ...

Outside My Window today... 61 degrees @ 9:45 am on 9-8-12, with an expected high of 88 today; blue skies; a charming back yard with an old white iron bench in the corner, and three amazing cyclists warming up for their criterium (bike race) today at the 2012 Masters National Cycling Championships here in Bend, Oregon.

I am STILL thinking ... about how excited I am for 2013's AN ARTFUL JOURNEY, which I am registered to attend!

I am thankful for ... all my loved ones, and the kindnesses they show me.

From the kitchen ... Zucchini Bread with Cranberries & Pistachios and an awesome pot of coffee

I am wearing ... my pajamas with my ocelot-print flannel robe

I am creating ... ideas for a Magpie's Art Nest workshop or two in 2013; and curriculum plans for a NWF Habitat Stewards Training series in Encinitas, Ca in 2013

I am going ... into downtown Bend shortly to see my husband Mark and his teammates Steve, John, Joey, Mike, Bob, Alex and our housemate Kal race for a national championship in the masters 54-59 Criterium event.

I am reading ... ALL THE DANCING BIRDS by Auburn McCanta; "Desire to Inspire" by Christine Mason Miller (in bits here & there, to let it sink in); and I'm about to start MY FATHER'S HOUSES (Memoir of a Family) by Steven V. Roberts.

I am praying ... mostly for my father, who now lives in a memory care facility and who turns 92 in 2 weeks; for healthy and happy family members and friends; for the safe arrival of our next grandchild, Jamison, who is due in January 2013; and for many friends the world over who have asked me to pray for and with them. There are many, many intentions in my prayer journal these days.

I've been listening to ... a lot of classis rock on this holiday - it's good driving music, and it's good 'gathering / party' music for a houseful of mature male cyclists with their one (that would be me) 'housemother'. Bike racing, it's good stuff.

Around the house ... it's pretty quiet with us here and my niece and great-niece there.

One of my favorite things ... waking up every day.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The YEAR: a 3-night return trip home from Bend, taking our time so we aren't in the car for as many hours each day; 5 nights in Healdsburg, CA in October; getting re-certified with NWF (national wildlife federation) as a Habitat Steward HOST in their Wildlife Habitat Garden program ...
